What's up world? TBG is officially on fall break and could not possibly be more excited. Thank you to some of the dedicated followers of not only this blog but also my life for helping me make it here. Calling and writing me helped me keep my sanity. Expect much more frequent blog updates as I will be substantially less busy now. Onto the NBA.
Earl Boykins is back in the NBA! The 5'5 wonder and one of my earliest live basketball memories dropped 20 points in 31 minutes in his return against the Pistons Thursday. I can still vaguely remember watching a small blur running circles around opponents in my father and I's early days of Rockford Lightning basketball fandom. Great to see the 33 year old back in the league. Guys like him and teammate as well as fellow former Bolt Mike James are guys whose stories the NBA should play up more. Enough hero worship for the Kobes and LeBrons. Let's hear about the love for the game these guys displayed on their difficult paths to the league. Something real people can relate to.
Also, big ups to rookie PG Eric Maynor. You might remember him as the skinny sophomore that messed up your bracket a couple years ago. In 2007 he led Virginia Commonwealth to glorious upset over Duke. An 11 over a 6. Maynor is now backing up U of I pride Deron Williams for the Utah Jazz. When Williams went down recently Maynor filled in admirably. 13 points and 11 assists in your first NBA start ain't too shabby. Following it up with 24 points is special. Fellow rook Brandon Jennings looks ready to do some things in Milwaukee but watch for Maynor over the next couple years to really blossom. As with Golden State freshman Steph Curry I have a theory that playing as the only NBA talent on your college team makes you more prepared for the NBA. You have to really learn the game that way with every team you face focusing on stopping you.
