BCS Mess

Facing the final stretch for the college football regular season we still have an amazing 7 undefeated teams. Time to breakdown each team and project their season ending status.

Flordia- The Tebow Train will roll into an SEC championship with the Alabama Tide. Look for them to just eek out a victory over Florida State on 11/28 as the Seminoles play their hearts out in what could easily be Bobby Bowden's last game. While Tebow and the offense get most of the press Florida had given up a measy 88 points through their first eight games. This defense, which returned all 11 starters from last year's National Championship team, is the reason for Florida's success.
Projected Finish: 14-0 ,National Champion

Alabama- Another SEC team with a loaded defense. The Tide will roll over LSU at home this weekend and cruise into the SEC Championship game. While Bama is tough their defense is not as good as Florida's. A 14-10 loss in the SEC Championship will erase their National Championship dreams.
Projected Finish: 13-1

Texas- No doubt they will finish undefeated. They will stomp whoever ends up winning the Big 12 North in the Big 12 Championship game and be 13-0 at that point. The BCS likes them as they currently sit #2 in the standings. While I do not agree with it, we will have another SEC vs. Big 12 National Championship. However, Texas is not the second best team in the nation and will get blown out as Tebow makes it 3.
Projected Finish: 13-1 BCS Championship Loser

Iowa- Never pretty but unblemished, the Hawkeyes are the only 9-0 team in the nation. While Iowa is not your typical college powerhouse, they play like championship caliber NFL team: win the turnover battle, run the ball and play solid defense. While it may not be chic in a Spread happy era, it works. The Hawkeyes will expose Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor in two weeks and finish their outstanding start. However, while the BCS has given more love than the human polls the Hawkeyes will not be able to jump Texas or Florida and be relegated to a Rose Bowl meeting with Oregon.
Projected Finish: 12-1 as they drop to Oregon

TCU- I love this team. They play swarming defense, feature explosive special teams and a QB with only 3 INTs all year. I would love to see them go against one of the major college heavyweights but know it won't happen. The BCS currently has them 6th. It will be interesting to see how a win over Utah will help their standing but have no practical shot for a National title.
Projected Finish: 13-0 with a non-championship BCS bowl victory

Boise State- They shocked the nation with a victory over Oklahoma a couple years ago as an unknown. While they are nationally known now, they only have one major victory to show for their 8-0 start. The more Oregon does from here on out, the more they do for Boise. It doesn't hurt to have a win over the best 1 loss team in the nation. But a weak WAC conference will not help their national argument. Undefeated but unrecognized will be their fate.
Projected Finish: 12-1

Cincinnati- This team is for real. They have a prolific offense, regardless of if it's led by their #1 or #2 QB. Currently fifth in the BCS the Bearcats will get a boost when they win over West Virginia. I see them pulling out a victory over Pitt and finishing 12-0 going into the final BCS poll. No love for a weak Big East conference though.
Projected Finish: 13-0

That's right, three undefeated teams at the end of the year. While Florida will be crowned the "official" champion, TCU and Cincinnati will cry foul. This year will go down as the biggest argument for a playoff in college. Eight team bracket style tourny anyone?

  1. I like your pics!

I also predict that Illinois will defeat Minnesota this weekend, ringing the Illini to an amazing 3-6!
