Coach Tom

Coach Tom here writing on my first blog of the year letting everyone know my opinions in the sporting world this week.

1. Jets are for real this year getting to 3-0 and didnt have a let down after last weeks trash talk showdown verse the Pats. I think that they are going to win the division, but the Ravens strong defense and solid offense is still going to be winning the AFC this year. TBG might think that the Packers will be facing the Ravens in the Super Bowl, but the Vikings are going to beat the Packers because their denfesive line is to much for handle for the Packers struggling offensive line. Vikings will win the Super Bowl.

2. Will anyone listen to me and upsets in college football?? I had Wash beating USC, Oregon beating Cal, and my Iowa Hawkeyes and Coach Kirk Ferentz is now 7-2 verse is home state. I too think Florida's defense is too talented for them not to repeat, but if the god of college football isn't healthy in two weeks for the game at LSU watch out for LSU to upset them.

3. The AP top 25 polls are out of control this year. I would really love to see the top 4 team to lose just so Boise St can be number 1 and screw the whole BCS up. This year may be the best proof to college football that they need a playoff system. I am an Iowa fan but jumping all the way to 13 after being unranked might be a bit heavy. Look for Miami to beat Oklahoma and Georgia to beat LSU.

4. Iowa is my dark horse to win the Big Ten this year. They get Michigan at home and Michigans lack of road games (4) is going to hurt them when they step into Iowa City. Ohio State and Penn State are overrated and never win the big games. ABC, Saturday night, "White Out", #5 and you only put up 10 points, 7 coming off the first play.... come on. There may have been rainy conditions, but Iowa put up 21 on the road in the same rain.

5.Of all the stories out there NASCAR's Mark Martin might be the best. Current points leader, 5 trips to victory lane, 11 top five's, and 16 top ten's equals a great year, but to do it at the age of 50 is just impressive.

6. I am a die hard Cubs fan as TBG said, and i will not be happy with them until they get rid of their overpaid players an bring some players that actually give a damn for a whole season. Sam Fuld puts his body on the line every day and thats the kind of players we need. Jake Fox can flat out hit and needs to play everyday. Those who argue that he is not a great fielder, have you seen Soriano play the field the last couple years? Fox couldn't do worse then that.

7.Staying on the Cubs and baseball, I believe baseball is getting back to the solid defense, pitching, and speed and is getting away from just being able to hit homeruns every game. They need to get faster and better on defense. Theriot is a class guy, but he is not a starting shortstop in the league. He could play a solid 2nd base and if Blanco could find a way to hit I think he is our best defensive player.

8. TBG may have the Yankees winning the World Series, but i will never choose them to win anything and the Dodgers will win this year in 6. Torre will get back at his former team.

9.With the huge free agent market coming in 2010, most of the NBA teams have called it quits before the season even starts. The Lakers will repeat with help from Ron Artest.

10. Watch for Derrick Rose to have a huge year and prove that the Bulls made the right choice at picking him number 1. This is a point guard league and Rose proved last year that he is going to be a star. The Bulls have the foundation to be champions, they just need to put the pieces together around Derrick Rose.

11. Blackhawks are back and this year should be very interesting. With Huet starting this year, he has a lot to prove that he is ready to step up and be that dominant goalie because they won't be seeing a Stanley Cup soon without a dominant man in the net. If Huet can step up look for the Blackhawks to push for the Stanley Cup this year.

12. The 12th man being a fan is a great idea and some team should really try it out.

  1. I think that as much as you want to think that the vikings are going to win the super bowl I think the vikings are not consistent enough to win. I do believe that the Vikings are good enough to win the north, the AFC is way too dominant to be beaten by an unconsistent NFC team.
