Since this is a new blog let's get to know each other a little better. The Big Guy is an opinionated sports fan with a lot of picks and views. Why don't I let you know what I am thinking...
1. The Ravens are my Super Bowl pick this year and have been from Week 1. I know we started a little late in relation to the season but trust me on this one.
2. The Big Guy is a huge Packers fan. I got them losing to the Ravens in South Florida this year.
3. As much as I dislike most repeats, I see no one who can contend with a healthy Florida team this year in college football. If Tebow can come back from that Hit Stick he took this week I have them winning this year's BCS Championship.
4. Michigan is the best team in the Big Ten this year. Freshman quarterback Tate Forcier is Doug Flutie reincarnate. He has the magic and size...6'1 188? Please
5. Penn St. and Ohio St. are horribly overrated. Daryle Clark did little to support his status as a "top Big Ten QB" at home against then unranked Iowa this week.
6. Back to Michigan for a second. Denard Robinson is a stud. The day Michigan finds a way to get Forcier and Robinson on the field together in some kind of freak package they will crush the Big Ten.
7. Tiger Woods is the closest thing to Jordan since Jordan in any sport.
8. The Big Guy and Coach Tom are diehard Cubs fans.
9. While this year has been less than awesome, there are a few positives. Derrek Lee showed he still has a lot left in the tank. .306 35 109 in 137 games is great and a lot more than CT&TBG expected from him this year.
10. Carlos Marmol has been great since his move to the closer role. Zero blown saves since the adjustment.
11. Esmailin Caridad looks like the real deal in the bullpen. A 1.65 ERA with 16 K's in 16.1 IP shows promise.
12. A healthy Aramis Ramirez is still a top level 3B. .321 15 HR and 64 RBI in half a season ain't bad. If only we had a full season from him...
13. The Big Guy really doubts that Lou Piniella will be back after this year. His fire is out and he has a history of leaving teams before his contract expires.
14. Alfonso Soriano needs to go. Even if the Cubs can't get much for him due to his HUGE contract, 8 years $136 million. Sam Fuld, Jake Fox and Tyler Colvin looks like the outfield of the future for the Cubs. These guys can play and TRY every game. Soriano's bi-polar performances have run their course in Chicago.
15. Kevin Durant is TBG's admitted mancrush and my favorite player in the game. He is a freak physically and exploded last year for 25.3 PPG. Expect him to only get better both statistically and in the W column. He is only 21 going into his third season. The Thunder are my second favorite team in the NBA after Da Bulls.
16. With a core of Russel Westbrook, James Harden, KD and Jeff Green expect the Thunder to be this year's surprise playoff team. Nenad Kristic and Nick Collison provide enough size in the middle to let the youngsters do their thing.
17. I have the Yankees playing the Dodgers in the World Series this year. The Yankees in 6.
18. The NBA this year is going to be a story of the haves and have-nots. The Lakers, Cavs, Spurs and Celtics are the only teams with real championship potential. Nearly everyone else is in hibernation mode until the LeBron, Wade and company become free agents.
19. I see the Spurs getting healthy and winning with the starting lineup of Parker, Ginobili, Jefferson, McDyess, Duncan. That's one savvy veteran team right there.
20. Would it not be awesome if NBA teams stopped carrying their joke of a 12th man and had a drawing every game taking one lucky fan and signing them to a one day contract? You could sit on the bench, get a generic jersey (or a real one if you wanted to pay for it), go in with the team at halftime, participate in the shootaround. I know the NBA has its collective bargaining agreement coming up. The economy is rough, why not consider this? Sounds like a moneymaker to me.

I fully concur on 20. How much money could the Bulls have made if they sold the 12th seat to a fan during the last game of 1997 finals?
ReplyDeleteAfter consulting resident 90's era Bulls fan supreme Joe, the exact answer is $1.2 million. The winning bidder would have been nunotha than...Ditka!
ReplyDeleteHowever, this point is worthless considering the fact that each fan has an equal chance in the drawing for 12th man. It would result in an overall ticket sales profit boost from increased value in all seats, not a high bidder.

I have the Saints in the Super Bowl, 3-0 including a win with Drew Brees 176 yrd and 0 TDs, with 200+ yards rushing and 3 rushing TDs, after 9 passing TDs in 2 weeks, that's scary offensive balance. The Ravens will be right there, and I have them losing in the bowl, but NOs offense is scary good. Even with Pierre Thomas, their best RB, and Lance Moore, their most consistent receiver out, they're still putting up scary offensive numbers. The Thunder, sadly, I feel are still a year away, James Harden is going to take a while to adjust to the speed of the NBA game, and has a tendency to disappear in games where he plays teams of equal talent. The Thunder are a year too young and the Spurs a year too old, can I be the first to say that they're done? Great Cubs thoughts, Soriano was my favorite baseball player to watch in Washington, had a great first campaign with the Cubs including a 2-weeks span where he carried them more than any player I've ever seen. Since then? He's turned to shit, and I don't know if his legs fell off, he's done too much partying, or he's just lost the desire to be even a mediocre baseball player, but all that guaranteed money isn't going anywhere. Last but not least, as far as your Tiger Woods thought, he's certainly one of the guys to carry Jordan's mantle in the sports world, but I've got one for you: The level of dominance Anderson Silva has displayed since coming over to the UFC from Pride Fighting (where there was no steroid testing and the only major losses of his career occured) that is Jordan-esque, his striking is so much more precise than anyone else in the game that it doesn't even look like he's trying when he wins, kind of like Jordan at his best. This guy also has a level of Charisma that tells me if english was his first language, he'd be the biggest draw in combat sports. If this guy keeps his championship fire burning and doesn't get bored with his level of dominance, he's going to be the Jordan figure if MMA ever gets to the next commercial level.
ReplyDelete1. I agree but the Eagles will go from the NFC. Also Mike Vick willl become a bigger factor in the offense.
ReplyDelete2.Packers suck. They beat the rams, really impressive.
3.Florida is supreme and they do not necessarily need tim tebow to win it all. Just someone who can facilitate the offense.
4.I like Denard Robinson more than Tate eventhough I havent seen to many snaps of him throwing the ball. I personally think she should have went to a LSU or Alabama, places who didnt have a front runner for the qb position coming into the season.
5.Agreed
6.Shoelace.
7.Agreed
8.Cubs suck.. MANNY
9.I dont care about anything concerning the cubs.
15. Kevin Durant is a beast.
17. Dodgers winning in 7.
19. Great line up but wont beat the Lakers.
20.Thats a great idea.. No complaints.
